Our take

Last updated 14 October 2026

GDevelop describes an open-source, no-code engine for 2D and 3D games, with events, behaviors, and one-click export. AI in the editor can answer questions, build a mechanic, or start a game from a prompt. The editor is free, but cloud build quotas and AI credits differ by plan, and the pricing text we read did not show Silver, Gold, or Pro dollar prices.

Best for Hobbyists and indies who want a no-code game editor with optional cloud builds.

Pros

  • The engine and editor are described as free and open source under the MIT license.
  • No-code events, 2D and 3D editing, multiplayer services, and desktop, web, and mobile export are documented.
  • In-editor AI is described for questions, mechanics, and starting a game.

Cons

  • Free publishing to Android and desktop is listed as once per day, with higher daily caps on paid plans.
  • A company above $50,000 in revenue or funds in the prior 12 months must use Pro if it uses a GDevelop account.
  • Paid subscription dollar amounts were not in the pricing text we received.
