Our take

Last updated 14 October 2026

Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent for the terminal, IDE, browser, and Slack. The product page says it can edit a codebase, run commands, and open pull requests, and that it asks before changing files. The pricing page we read includes it on paid plans, not on the free plan, with Pro listed at $20 a month or $17 a month when billed annually.

Best for Developers who want a coding agent in the terminal or IDE on a paid Claude plan.

Pros

  • It is documented for macOS, Linux, and Windows, plus VS Code, JetBrains, GitHub, and Slack.
  • The site describes bug fixes, tests, refactors, and turning issues into pull requests.
  • A local permission step is documented before it edits files or runs commands.

Cons

  • The free Claude plan does not include Claude Code.
  • Paid plans share one usage pool, with rolling five-hour limits, so heavy coding sessions can hit a cap.
  • It is a software-development agent, not an in-game character tool.
